The Toronto Blue Jays completed a sweep of the Boston Red Sox in a doubleheader on Monday, winning the resumed game from June 26 by 4-1 and following it up with a 7-3 victory in the nightcap. The day was marked by a unique MLB milestone, as catcher Danny Jansen made history by playing for both teams in the same game.
The resumed game saw George Springer break a scoreless tie in the seventh inning with a solo homer, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added a two-run double to seal the win. Zach Pop (1-2) secured the victory for the Blue Jays, while Nick Pivetta (4-5) took the loss despite striking out 10 over six innings of relief. Boston’s Jarren Duran hit a solo home run in the losing effort.
In the second game, Springer once again led the way with a three-run homer in a five-run fifth inning, guiding Toronto to a 7-3 win. Jose Berrios (13-9) pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. Duran homered again for Boston, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the sweep.
Cubs 18, Pirates 8: Chicago’s Historic Night on the Basepaths
The Chicago Cubs put on a show in Pittsburgh, routing the Pirates 18-8 in the opener of their three-game series. Dansby Swanson’s grand slam headlined the offensive explosion, but it was Pete Crow-Armstrong who stole the spotlight with three of Chicago’s eight stolen bases—a feat the Cubs hadn’t accomplished since 1913.

Yankees 5, Nationals 2: Nestor Cortes Dominates
Nestor Cortes continued his winning streak as the New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals 5-2. Cortes (8-10) pitched 6 2/3 strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six. Gleyber Torres, Austin Wells, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. all homered for the Yankees, who have now won five of their last six games.
Royals Sweep Guardians in Doubleheader
The Kansas City Royals took both games of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians. In the first game, Bobby Witt Jr. hit a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning to lead the Royals to a 4-3 victory. In the nightcap, Salvador Perez hit two homers, including a grand slam, driving in six runs to power the Royals to a 9-4 win. Kansas City’s bullpen combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings in the second game to complete the sweep.
Phillies 3, Astros 2 (10 innings): Bryce Harper Walks It Off
Bryce Harper played the hero for the Philadelphia Phillies, delivering a walk-off single in the 10th inning to secure a 3-2 victory over the Houston Astros. Harper’s hit came after Josh Hader (6-7) walked Trea Turner to start the inning, allowing automatic runner Kyle Schwarber to score the winning run. Matt Strahm (6-2) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.
Braves 10, Twins 6: Olson Leads Atlanta in Rain-Soaked Victory
Matt Olson drove in five runs as the Atlanta Braves outslugged the Minnesota Twins 10-6 in a rain-soaked contest in Minneapolis. Olson finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run, while Whit Merrifield added a 5-for-5 performance for the Braves, who have won seven of their last nine games.

Rockies 3, Marlins 2: McMahon Homers as Colorado Edges Miami
Ryan McMahon homered and singled to lead the Colorado Rockies to a 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins. Jake Bird (2-2) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, and Tyler Kinley picked up his seventh save. Miami’s Griffin Conine struck out in his major league debut as a pinch hitter in the ninth.
Mariners 5, Rays 1: Arozarena Homers as Seattle Defeats Tampa Bay
Randy Arozarena’s three-run homer lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Bryce Miller (10-7) pitched seven innings of one-run ball, striking out 10 to secure the win. Tampa Bay’s Josh Lowe hit a solo homer, but the Rays dropped below .500 with the loss.
