Police have launched a murder probe after a 57-year-old man was beaten to death in a West Sussex pub following England’s draw with Denmark. Read about the ongoing investigation and police appeals for information.
Bollywood Fever: Police have initiated a murder investigation after a man was fatally beaten inside a pub following England’s 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday.
Authorities believe the 57-year-old victim from South Yorkshire fell prey to football violence, suffering fatal injuries at The Dolphin and Anchor Wetherspoon pub in West Sussex. The brutal assault occurred less than three hours after the Euro 2024 game ended, with Sussex Police identifying three men as the attackers.
The violent incident unfolded inside the pub, prompting emergency services to arrive and administer CPR on the street outside. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the attack: a 30-year-old from Birmingham on suspicion of murder and a 42-year-old from County Durham on suspicion of affray. Both suspects remain in police custody. Investigators are also searching for a third man suspected of affray, who remains at large.
Sussex Police have appealed to the public for information regarding the incident. A spokesman stated, “The cause of the incident remains under investigation, and we’re urging anyone with information to come forward as we seek to establish the full circumstances.”
Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Joseph of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said, “This incident led to the tragic death of a 57-year-old man, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. It happened in a busy pub in the city centre, and we’re urging anyone with information to come forward as we seek to establish the exact circumstances.
