NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, stranded on the ISS, may need a rescue mission by SpaceX’s Dragon Crew-9 in 2025 due to Boeing spacecraft malfunctions.
Bollywood Fever: Two astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, have been stranded in space for over 60 days, and they may have to continue orbiting Earth until early 2025 due to issues with their Boeing spacecraft.
NASA has indicated that the astronauts might need to be rescued by a rival company’s spacecraft, SpaceX, led by Elon Musk. The pair traveled to the International Space Station (ISS) in June aboard the Boeing Starliner, but their mission has faced significant setbacks, including helium leaks and thruster failures, preventing a safe return.
Originally, Butch and Suni were scheduled to stay on the ISS for only a week, but current circumstances suggest they might remain there until next year. NASA’s plan is to bring them back on the SpaceX Dragon Crew-9 mission, which is set to launch in September. This mission would not be able to return the astronauts to Earth until February.
This potential plan is still under consideration, as involving multiple parties makes it a complex situation. A Boeing crew returning on a SpaceX mission would be a significant embarrassment for Boeing.
Meanwhile, Butch and Suni are continuing their duties on the ISS, assisting other astronauts with various tasks. However, their prolonged stay is adding extra strain on the station’s supplies, making a timely resolution increasingly critical.
