Neve Campbell Returns as Sidney Prescott in ‘Scream VII’ Amidst Cast and Crew Shakeups
Bollywoodfever, March 13: Neve Campbell, renowned for her role as Sidney Prescott in the initial five entries of the series, is set to reprise her iconic character in “Scream VII.”
Her return might catch fans off guard, considering her decision not to participate in “Scream VI” due to a disagreement over compensation.
In a June 2022 statement to Deadline, Campbell discussed her tough choice to step away: “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” she said. She felt that the compensation offered did not reflect her contributions to the franchise.
However, in a recent Instagram update, Campbell expressed her excitement: “so excited to announce this news” that “Sidney Prescott is coming back,” accompanied by an image of her script, according to Decider. She was enthused over the joy and honor of portraying Sidney across the “Scream” films. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”
She also shared her excitement about Kevin Williamson directing the seventh installment, dreaming for years of the possibility to work with him again.
“Scream VII” has experienced significant changes in its cast and crew in recent months.
Melissa Barrera was let go from the film in November following controversial social media posts regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Jenna Ortega, known for her role as Tara Carpenter and Barrera’s co-star, left the project due to scheduling conflicts with “Wednesday’s” second season.
Christopher Landon, slated to direct, exited in December, describing the project on Twitter as “a dream job that turned into a nightmare.”
Barrera discussed her departure with Rolling Stone, acknowledging the shock but not confirming if it influenced Ortega’s departure. She praised Ortega as “a good egg,” emphasizing their mutual support.
