Bollywood Fever: NFL receiver Michael Gallup has announced his retirement after six seasons, just three months after signing a deal worth up to $3 million with the Las Vegas Raiders. Gallup, a third-round draft pick in 2018, spent his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys, amassing 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Gallup decided to retire before training camp, as reported by Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, who noted on X that Gallup’s “heart was no longer in it.” The 28-year-old receiver’s best season came in 2019 when he recorded 1,107 receiving yards and six touchdowns. However, his performance declined due to injuries, including an ACL tear in January 2022.
After failing to exceed 500 receiving yards for three consecutive years, Gallup was released by the Cowboys in March. Despite playing in every game last season, Gallup chose to retire, citing a lack of passion for the sport.
Gallup has not publicly elaborated on his decision but did repost congratulatory messages from former Cowboys teammate CeeDee Lamb on Instagram. “Nothing but love this way kid,” he wrote to Lamb.
In 2022, Gallup signed a five-year, $57.5 million deal with Dallas, including $27 million in total guarantees. His retirement marks the end of a notable NFL career defined by early promise and perseverance through injuries.
