Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is expected to start the 2024 season on the PUP list, delaying his return until October. Jerome Ford is set to step in as the team’s primary RB.
Bollywood Fever: Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is anticipated to begin the 2024 NFL regular season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, according to a report by ESPN on Monday.
This development, while expected, would push Chubb’s earliest return to the field to October.
Chubb, 28, underwent surgery last September to repair a torn left MCL and meniscus, followed by a procedure in November to address a torn left ACL.
The injury occurred during Week 2 of last season in a matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This isn’t the first time Chubb has faced significant surgery on the same knee; he had a major operation in 2015 while playing for Georgia.
With Chubb sidelined, Jerome Ford is preparing to take over the No. 1 running back role for the Browns. Chubb did not participate in the preseason and spent the entirety of training camp on the PUP list as well.
NFL players who start the regular season on the PUP list are mandated to miss at least four games.
Despite this setback, Chubb’s track record speaks for itself. He made four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 2019 to 2022 and surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in each of those seasons, including an impressive 1,525 yards in 2022.
Since being drafted by the Browns as the 35th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Chubb has amassed 6,511 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns across 77 games.
His potential return in October will be highly anticipated by both the team and fans alike.
