Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik joins “Dancing With the Stars” Season 33 as the first male gymnast to compete. The new season premieres on September 17 on ABC and Disney+.
Bollywood Fever: Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, fresh off his historic performance on the pommel horse at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is set to bring his talents to a new stage—this time, the ballroom.
The Team USA athlete has been announced as the first contestant for Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars.”
The announcement was made on “Good Morning America” Thursday, where Nedoroscik, 25, made a live in-studio appearance to share his excitement. “I’m very excited,” he said. “I’m hoping to bring some [gymnastics] moves … I want to have fun with it.”
Nedoroscik, a two-time Olympic bronze medalist, is making history as the first male gymnast to compete on the show. Previous female gymnasts who have graced the “DWTS” dance floor include Suni Lee (Season 30), Simone Biles (Season 24), and Laurie Hernandez (Season 23).
As for the rest of the Season 33 lineup, fans will have to wait until the full cast is revealed live on “GMA” on September 4. However, that hasn’t stopped viewers from speculating on social media. Among the names being floated are NFL star Jason Kelce, former inmate Gypsy Rose Blanchard, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, “Vanderpump Rules” star Tom Sandoval, Spice Girls’ Victoria Beckham, and “Golden Bachelor” alum Gerry Turner.
ABC has not commented on casting rumors ahead of the official reveal.
This season, Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro will return as co-hosts, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli back at the judges’ table.
Last season’s Mirrorball Trophy was claimed by Val Chmerkovskiy and actress Xochitl Gomez, who beat out strong contenders like Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach (second place), Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov (third place), Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev (fourth place), and Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber (fifth place).
Val Chmerkovskiy reflected on his victory, telling Page Six, “It feels like the culmination of a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice. I’m just proud that this young lady, so early in her life, was able to prove to herself that when you put your mind to something, and you’re willing to work really hard at it, you can accomplish anything.”
Gomez added, “I’ve always really been who I am and not really cared about what other people thought, but at this point in my career, there’s just a certain thing that you need, and this show is exactly what I needed. Just having the support, the family, the friends, and just people caring about me was really nice.
The all-new season of “Dancing With the Stars” premieres on Tuesday, September 17, on ABC and Disney+.
