The Paris Olympics organizers have canceled the triathlon swimming training session for the second consecutive day on Monday after recent heavy rain negatively impacted the water quality levels in the Seine River. The decision follows the cancellation of Sunday’s training session due to similar concerns.
Tests conducted on Saturday revealed that the Seine’s water quality did not meet the required standards for safe swimming. Despite the swimming cancellations, the running and bike training sessions continue as scheduled.
In a statement released on Monday, the organizers expressed confidence that the water quality would improve before the triathlon competitions begin on July 30. “Given the weather forecast for the next 36 hours, Paris 2024 and World Triathlon are confident that water quality will return to below limits before the start of the triathlon competitions on July 30,” the statement read.
The recent heavy rains have caused temporary deterioration in water conditions, prompting the precautionary measures to ensure athlete safety. The organizing committee remains vigilant and is closely monitoring the situation to make any necessary adjustments in preparation for the upcoming events.
