Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, pleads guilty to a felony DWI charge in Texas. The former MLB pitcher now faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Bollywood Fever: Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of driving while intoxicated.Â
The 54-year-old, a former MLB pitcher, entered the plea on Tuesday morning in Smith County, Texas, just ahead of his scheduled trial.
The charge, classified as “DWI third or more,” indicates multiple previous offenses.
While specific details of the plea agreement between Mahomes Sr. and prosecutors have not been disclosed, court records confirm the plea was made.
Attempts to reach the Smith County prosecutors for comment were unsuccessful, and Mahomes Sr.’s attorney has yet to respond.
As a result of the guilty plea, Mahomes Sr. now faces the possibility of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
However, it is likely that the plea agreement may include a recommendation for a more lenient sentence, given his cooperation.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 23.
The incident that led to these charges occurred in February, when Mahomes Sr. was arrested after a routine traffic stop revealed signs of intoxication.
According to court documents, Mahomes Sr. admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and had an open 16-ounce can of Coors beer in his vehicle at the time of the stop.
This arrest came just days before his son, Patrick Mahomes, won his third Super Bowl.
Despite the legal troubles, Mahomes Sr. attended the game, although he kept a low profile.
This isn’t Mahomes Sr.’s first encounter with the law over drunk driving. In 2019, he was charged with a similar offense and received a 40-day jail sentence, which he served on weekends.
The case highlights the ongoing struggles Mahomes Sr. faces and brings a somber note to the Mahomes family’s otherwise celebrated legacy in sports.
All eyes will be on the sentencing next month to see how the court handles this high-profile case.
