Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce expressed his lack of sympathy for the New York Knicks after their loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Pierce posted a video on social media showing him stomping on a Jalen Brunson jersey after the Knicks’ season-ending defeat.
There was speculation about whether Pierce purchased the Brunson jersey specifically to make the video, but there is more to the story. A few weeks prior, Pierce had made a bet with Knicks fans that if New York advanced past the first round, he would buy and wear a Brunson jersey. Pierce honored his bet after the Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
Despite Brunson’s impressive performance in the conference semifinals, where he averaged 29.7 points per game, a fractured hand sidelined him for much of Game 7, contributing to the Knicks’ loss.
While acknowledging Brunson’s playoff prowess, Pierce, who played 15 seasons in Boston, remains unsupportive of the Knicks. He now shifts his allegiance against the Pacers as they face the Celtics. Although Boston has made the conference finals in the last three seasons, this will be Indiana’s first appearance since 2014, with the team aiming for their first NBA Finals since 2000.
