Veteran PBS correspondent Judy Woodruff apologizes for mistakenly repeating unverified claims about Trump and Israel-Hamas peace talks during the Democratic National Convention coverage.
Bollywood Fever: Veteran PBS correspondent Judy Woodruff issued an apology on Wednesday for comments she made on air regarding former President Donald Trump and ongoing ceasefire negotiations in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
During PBS’ coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Monday, Woodruff referenced a story she had read from Axios and Reuters, alleging that Trump had been encouraging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to delay peace talks until after the U.S. election.
The claim suggested that Trump believed a peace deal could potentially boost Democrat Kamala Harris’ campaign.
However, on Wednesday, Woodruff took to social media platform X to clarify that she had not seen later reports denying the story, which had been refuted by both the Trump campaign and Israel.
She emphasized that her comments were not based on any original reporting of her own.
“This was a mistake, and I apologize for it,” Woodruff stated.
Woodruff’s distinguished journalism career includes significant stints at CNN and NBC News. She served as the host of PBS’ NewsHour from 2013 until 2022, when she stepped down to pursue a reporting project.
