U.S. immigration officials have arrested Gianfranco Torres-Navarro, a Peruvian gang leader wanted for serious crimes, after he fled to the United States.
New York, Bollywood Fever: U.S. immigration officials have apprehended Gianfranco Torres-Navarro, a 38-year-old Peruvian gang leader, in New York. The arrest was confirmed on Thursday by a spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Torres-Navarro, who is wanted in Peru, was detained following a tip-off from Homeland Security Investigations, which had notified ICE’s Buffalo field office about his presence last month.
Torres-Navarro, known as “Gianfranco 23” in Peruvian media, is associated with multiple serious crimes, including the alleged murder of a retired police officer. Peruvian media reports suggest that he fled to the United States after the incident. ICE did not disclose specific details about the charges he faces in Peru.

After entering the U.S. near Roma, Texas, on May 16, Torres-Navarro was arrested and served with a notice to appear for immigration proceedings. He has since been transferred to the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, where he is currently awaiting further immigration proceedings.
“Gianfranco Torres-Navarro poses a significant threat to our communities, and we won’t allow New York to be a safe haven for dangerous non-citizens,” said Thomas Brophy, ICE Buffalo Field Office Director, in a statement.
As of now, ICE’s online detainee locator does not list a legal representative for Torres-Navarro, and his legal proceedings are pending. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by U.S. immigration authorities to prevent dangerous individuals from using the country as a refuge from justice.
