The Philadelphia Phillies’ four-game win streak ends with a 10-0 loss to the Astros. Taijuan Walker struggles, while Houston’s Spencer Arrighetti dominates.

Bollywood Fever: The Philadelphia Phillies (78-55) saw their four-game win streak come to an abrupt halt on Wednesday as the Houston Astros (71-62) took the final game of their three-game series with a decisive 10-0 victory. After a promising start, the Phillies found themselves unable to recover from a six-run deficit built by the Astros in the fourth inning.

Walker’s Rough Outing

Phillies’ starter Taijuan Walker (3-6, 6.50 ERA) took the mound with hopes of securing a series sweep but struggled from the onset. While Walker only allowed one run through the first three innings—a result of an errant pick-off attempt that allowed Jose Altuve to steal home—things quickly unraveled in the fourth inning.

Walker gave up a leadoff single, followed by two doubles, which brought in two runs. Yordan Alvarez then delivered the first of his three home runs on the day, pushing the Astros to a commanding six-run lead. Despite the rough outing, Phillies manager Rob Thomson kept Walker in the game to save the bullpen for an upcoming crucial series against the Atlanta Braves.

Walker finished the game with 93 pitches, of which only 46 were strikes. He allowed 13 hits, one walk, no strikeouts, and six earned runs over six innings.

Notable Stats

  • Taijuan Walker: Walker’s 13 hits allowed were the most by a Phillies pitcher since Aaron Harang in 2015. He also became the first Phillies pitcher since Ben Lively in 2017 to go six innings without recording a strikeout.
  • Bullpen Struggles: The Phillies’ bullpen, consisting of the lower end of their depth chart, allowed four additional runs in the later innings.
  • Astros’ Spencer Arrighetti: Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti (7-11, 4.63 ERA) dominated the Phillies, no-hitting them through seven innings. Arrighetti finished with 7 2/3 innings pitched, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks while striking out 11. His WPA (Win Probability Added) score for the game was 21.6, making him the clear leader of the game.

Next Up

The Phillies now turn their attention to a critical four-game series against the Atlanta Braves (72-60), beginning on Thursday. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST, and the game will be broadcast nationally on MLB Network (out-of-market only), NBC Sports Philadelphia, and Bally Sports Southeast. Phillies fans can also catch the game on 94 WIP or WTTM 1680.

With their playoff hopes in the balance, the Phillies will be looking to bounce back and make a strong statement against a divisional rival.
