Powerful Honda Civic Type R 2023 Debuts in the US market
Honda Motor Company on Thursday revealed its all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R. The car is the most powerful model in the Type R’s 30-year history, the Japanese automaker said.
The Civic Type R will be available in five distinctive colours: Historic Championship White – the exclusive Type R finish revered by Honda enthusiasts, Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Pearl Crystal Black and Pearl Sonic Grey.
Pricing and other details about the 2023 Civic Type R will be provided closer to its launch this fall, the company said.
The 2023 Civic Type R is the sixth variant since its debut in Japan as a 1997 model.
Only the second Civic Type R was sold in the United States.
The all-new 2023 Civic Type R recently set a new track record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Suzuka circuit in Japan for the 2022 Formula 1 Honda Japan Grand Prix, securing its legacy as the most powerful Civic Type R ever. .
As with the engine, Honda isn’t ready to share details about the Civic Type R’s underpinnings, other than that it will be “enhanced.”
We know that the car is lower, longer and wider than the previous model. It also wears a wider set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, all of which surely contribute to the new Type R setting a record for a front-wheel drive bike at Suzuka.

Visually speaking, we finally get a good look at the Type R’s large rear wing in context with the car.
It’s not the only improvement – the front clip is slightly more aggressive with a mesh grille and redesigned corner intakes.
Discreet side sills are located on the fenders behind the front wheels, which work with the intakes to increase the efficiency of airflow around the car.
Type R wheels and tires neatly fill out the bulging fender flares, and to maintain the sporty look, the hot hatch has wider rear doors than the standard Civic.
A rounded rear panel with a diffuser and triple exit exhaust completes the exterior makeover.
Honda obviously has a lot to say about the new Type R.
As such, this debut is essentially a visual presentation that showcases what is likely to be the last non-electrified Type R from the Japanese marque.
