A group of pro-Palestinian protesters entered the Brooklyn Museum on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., the demonstrators arrived via Eastern Parkway, protesting both outside the plaza and within the building. Their actions resulted in damage to existing and newly installed artwork on the plaza.
The museum stated that the protesters blocked entrances and unfurled banners inside and outside the building. Additionally, the museum’s public safety staff faced physical and verbal harassment.
To ensure the safety of visitors, the museum decided to close early.
Police have not disclosed the number of arrests made.
On the same day, a new encampment was established at Columbia University.
A university spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the encampment erected this evening and are monitoring the situation. We remain committed to hosting a successful weekend for our alumni.”
Meanwhile, the NYPD has implemented extra security measures for Sunday’s Israel Day Parade on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
Although there are no credible threats, spectators can expect a security presence similar to that of New Year’s Eve in Times Square.
