The blast occurred in Jefferson Township, near Scranton, around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The explosion sparked a fire that sent thick smoke billowing into the sky and scattered debris across the residential neighborhood.
A 75-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man was rescued from the home and transported to a hospital. Authorities have not disclosed details regarding his condition.
State police are continuing to investigate the source of the propane leak and what may have caused it to ignite.
