Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow traded touchdowns, but Derrick Henry’s 51-yard run set up Justin Tucker’s game-winning field goal, lifting the Ravens to a 41-38 OT win over the Bengals.
BollywoodFever: Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow turned Sunday’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals into a high-octane shootout, but it was Derrick Henry’s powerful run and Justin Tucker’s precision kicking that ultimately secured the Ravens’ 41-38 overtime win.
The game was full of big plays, with Jackson and Burrow combining for nine touchdown passes and more than 700 passing yards. It wasn’t until overtime, after a missed field goal by the Bengals, that the Ravens capitalized on a 51-yard run by Henry, setting up Tucker’s 24-yard game-winner.
The Wild Finish
With 1:35 left in regulation, Tucker nailed a 56-yard field goal to tie the game at 38, pushing it into overtime. On Cincinnati’s first possession in OT, a botched snap on a field goal attempt allowed Baltimore to take over. Henry immediately broke loose for a 51-yard run, putting the Ravens on the Bengals’ 6-yard line. Tucker’s chip-shot field goal sealed the victory.
“It was a shootout, a flat-out shootout in the second half,” said Ravens coach John Harbaugh. “That’s a great win against a team that was playing at a high level.”
A Battle of Quarterbacks
Lamar Jackson was in prime form, completing 26 of 42 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns, along with 55 rushing yards. He connected twice with Isaiah Lively, including a wild 6-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter where he fumbled the snap, scrambled, and stiff-armed Bengals defender Sam Hubbard before finding Lively in the end zone.
Meanwhile, Burrow delivered a stellar performance of his own, throwing for 392 yards and a career-high five touchdowns, including two to Ja’Marr Chase and two to Tee Higgins. Chase led the Bengals with 10 receptions for 193 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that put Cincinnati ahead 38-28.
The Turning Points
The Bengals had a chance to win in overtime, but kicker Evan McPherson’s 53-yard field goal attempt went wide left after holder Ryan Rehkow fumbled the snap. This mishap gave Baltimore new life, leading to Henry’s big run and Tucker’s game-winner.
Jackson’s ability to maintain composure under pressure was a key factor in the Ravens’ comeback. “He was ready, no panic,” said Henry, who has made a strong impact in his first season with the Ravens.
Injuries and Impact
The Bengals suffered several injuries, with CB Dax Hill exiting due to a knee injury in the first quarter and RT Amarius Mims being carted off in the third with an ankle injury. The Ravens saw T Roger Rosengarten briefly leave with an ankle issue but returned later in the game.
What’s Next?
The Ravens improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Bengals dropped to 1-4. Baltimore will look to build on this win as they head into the next week, while the Bengals are left searching for answers after another close loss.
