Ray Liotta, beloved for his iconic role as Henry Hill in GoodFellas, tragically passed away in his sleep from acute heart failure and pulmonary edema at the age of 67 in May 2022 while filming Dangerous Waters in the Dominican Republic.
Karsen, who has followed in her father’s footsteps as an actress, previously delivered a heartfelt speech in memory of Ray when he was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year. This week, she once again paid tribute to her father, gracing the red carpet in honor of his final film, 1992, which is set for release on Friday.
1992 features a cast that includes Tyrese Gibson and Scott Eastwood and is set against the backdrop of the infamous Los Angeles riots of April and May 1992. Karsen made a fashionable appearance at the movie’s screening, donning a chic black blazer-style dress paired with matching heels and a black clutch.
Ray Liotta’s legacy in Hollywood is indelible, particularly for his portrayal of real-life mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 crime drama GoodFellas. His later roles included the 2012 biopic The Iceman, directed by Ariel Vromen, with whom he reunited for 1992.
In May 2022, news of Ray’s unexpected passing in the Dominican Republic shocked the world. It was later revealed that he had died from pulmonary edema and acute heart failure, with atherosclerosis also contributing to his death. Three of his movies—Dangerous Waters, Cocaine Bear, and Fool’s Paradise—were released posthumously before 1992 finally debuts this week.
In February 2023, nine months after his death, Ray was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Both Karsen and Jacy Nittolo, who had been Ray’s fiancée at the time of his passing, delivered loving tributes at the ceremony. Karsen expressed her deep pride in her father, saying, “I’m so touched to be accepting this honor on behalf of my dad. I couldn’t be more proud of him. He was a one-of-a-kind actor and the best friend, brother, and father anyone could have asked for. I lucked out with you.”
She continued touchingly, “If you have a Ray in your life, you’re lucky. I love you so much. Thank you for your work and the imprint you left on me and all of those who love you. Everyone deserves a Ray in their life.”
In January, Karsen and Jacy walked the Emmys red carpet together in honor of Ray, who was posthumously nominated for his role in the miniseries Black Bird. Ray Liotta shared Karsen with his ex-wife Michelle Grace, whom he was married to from 1997 until their amicable divorce in 2004.
