India’s fastest growing Telecom network Mukesh ambani’s Reliance Jio won another fight against competitors Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea
Digital Communications Commission, Department of Telecom’s highest decision making body fined ₹3050cr. to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea for denying Interconnection to Ambani’s Jio when it has entered the telocom industry in 2016.
Airtel and Vodafone Idea failed to provide Interconnection due to this Jio user’s were not able to make calls to other networks.
Jio has been increasing its numbers in India. It has currently 306.7 millions users, where Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea loosing consumers drastically Airtel and Vodafone Idea tally stands at 394.8 million and 325.1 million respectively.
In fine of 3050cr. Airtel and Vodafone amounted to ₹1,050 crore each, for Idea it was ₹950 crore. Since then, Vodafone and Idea have merged to form Vodafone Idea, the largest telecom carrier in India.
“DCC has approved imposition of penalty on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea…However, the Commission has decided to send the recommendations back to TRAI’s for their view on revising quantum of penalty in the backdrop of stress in the sector,” an official source said.
The regulator had, in its recommendations, stated that the act of the three operators was against public interest and in violation of their licence agreement, which warrants revocation of the licence.
