Former UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel predicts Texas will dominate Michigan in their Week 2 matchup, likening Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns to Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs.
Bollywood Fever: As Week 2 of the college football season approaches, all eyes are on the highly anticipated showdown between the Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 and entered the season in the College Football Playoff picture, making this a critical game for both sides.
Former UCLA Bruins head coach and CBS Sports analyst Rick Neuheisel weighed in on the matchup during a Tuesday night segment, delivering a bold prediction: Texas will win in dominating fashion.
“They’re not only going to win, they’re going to whip ’em,” Neuheisel said. “Texas is that much faster, they’ve shown their physicality, and they held Colorado State to less than 200 yards. It’s not going to be a close game.”
Though the game is set to take place in Michigan’s home turf of Ann Arbor, Neuheisel’s prediction comes after Texas looked like a national title contender in their Week 1 thrashing of Colorado State.
The Longhorns secured a 52-0 victory, with even backup quarterback Arch Manning seeing action and throwing a touchdown. Colorado State managed just 192 total yards, struggling against Texas’ stout defense.
Neuheisel also compared Texas’ head coach Steve Sarkisian’s rebuilding efforts to Kirby Smart’s work at Georgia.
“The pomp and circumstance of this game is gonna be off the charts,” Neuheisel said. “What happened at Texas is what happened in Athens. Kirby Smart built Alabama in Athens. Steve Sarkisian is building Alabama in Austin.”
Sarkisian has compiled a 25-14 record since taking over at Texas, including a trip to the College Football Playoff last year. Michigan, meanwhile, opened their season with a 30-10 victory over Fresno State, though the game remained close until the third quarter.
As of Wednesday, Texas is a 7.5-point favorite, making Neuheisel’s pick for a Longhorns win unsurprising. However, his assertion that Texas will “whip” Michigan and that the game won’t be close has certainly sparked conversation ahead of Saturday’s matchup.
With Texas poised to prove their national championship credentials and Michigan looking to defend their home turf, this game is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling of the season.
