NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell eyes expanding international games to 16 per season, with 2024 featuring five matchups across London, Munich, and Brazil.

NFL, Bollywood Fever: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed his vision to expand the league’s international presence by increasing the number of games played overseas. Speaking on Friday before the NFL’s historic first game in Brazil, Goodell shared his goal of hosting up to 16 international games per season.

“The ownership’s approved eight games already,” Goodell noted during an interview on Peacock. “I hope to get that to 16 at some point in the future. Let’s see how that goes.”

Goodell’s remarks came ahead of the much-anticipated matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles, marking the NFL’s debut in South America.

This game is part of a broader international effort in the 2024 season, which includes five games played outside the United States.

The 2024 international slate features three games in London. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host a showdown between the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings on October 6, followed by a Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Chicago Bears matchup on October 13.

The Jaguars will also face the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium on October 20.

Additionally, the New York Giants will take on the Carolina Panthers in Munich’s Allianz Arena on November 10, continuing the NFL’s efforts to grow its fanbase in Germany.

Looking ahead, the NFL is planning its first game in Madrid in 2025, though details regarding the date and teams are yet to be finalized.

The league’s owners approved eight international games per season in a vote held in December 2023, signaling their commitment to expanding the NFL’s global reach.

Goodell’s ambition to increase that number to 16 demonstrates the league’s desire to engage international audiences and further grow the sport worldwide.
