Romania Eyes Knockout Stage with Confidence Ahead of Clash with Belgium

Romania’s impressive start at Euro 2024 has raised expectations. Defender Radu Dragusin expresses confidence as they prepare to face Belgium, aiming for a spot in the knockout stage.

Germany, Bollywood Fever: Romania’s impressive start to Euro 2024 has raised expectations, and the team is eager for another win, confident in their ability to match any side. Defender Radu Dragusin shared this sentiment as Romania braces for a crucial match against Belgium on Saturday.

Romania can secure a spot in the knockout stage with a game to spare if they beat Belgium in Cologne, following their unexpected 3-0 victory over Ukraine on Monday, marking their first European Championship win in 24 years.

Speaking about Belgium, Dragusin, a centre-back for Tottenham Hotspur, acknowledged their opponent’s high calibre. “The players they have and the teams they play for are of the highest calibre,” he said. “But we played several times with teams that were superior on paper and the result was favourable to us. Tomorrow we will go with the same mentality, great confidence, and we want to show that on the field.”

Belgium, meanwhile, is trying to maintain composure after a surprising 1-0 defeat by Slovakia in their opening match. Despite this, fans may be anxious about another potential early exit following their disappointing performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Slovakia was beaten 2-1 by Ukraine on Friday in their second group match.

Romania’s coach, Edward Iordanescu, has described his side as the generation of the soul, inspired by their stunning start. Entering the tournament as underdogs, with just one win in their previous 16 European Championship games, Romania made a strong statement against Ukraine. Dragusin, 22, emphasized the team’s hunger for more success. “I’m not fulfilled, I’ll always want more, to help my country,” he said.

With high morale, Dragusin and his teammates aim to bring the same energy and passion to their game against Belgium. “The victory against Ukraine was a special moment for all of us, we felt indescribable emotion. We hope to bring that to the pitch tomorrow night, and at the end of the game we will enjoy it,” he added.

Romania’s enthusiasm, energy, and passion have set the stage for what promises to be an exciting and challenging match against Belgium, with the potential to secure their advancement in Euro 2024.
