Vargas’s goal early in the second half effectively eliminated defending champions Italy from the competition. He praised his team’s aggressive approach and relentless pressure.

“We caused problems for Italy because we were very aggressive, right from the word go. We had the better of every 50/50, we didn’t give them any time to breathe, we were constantly breathing down their neck,” he said.

Vargas and his teammates will be eagerly watching on Sunday as England takes on Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen, with the winners set to face the Swiss in Düsseldorf next Saturday.

“We know that the games won’t be easy – far from it. We need to focus on ourselves, and our performances need to be the crucial factor, regardless of who we come up against,” Vargas stated. “I’m very happy with the fact that we’ve made it through to the quarterfinals. I’m going to try to enjoy this and prepare as best I can for our next match – we want to go a lot further than this.”

With this victory, Switzerland not only advances but also demonstrates their potential to compete with the best in Europe, driven by standout performances like that of Ruben Vargas.
