Saratov regional airport resumes operations after flight restrictions were imposed due to a Ukrainian drone attack that damaged homes and injured a woman. Russian air defense destroyed nine drones in the region.
Bollywood Fever: Flight restrictions at Russia‘s Saratov regional airport were lifted on Monday, following curbs imposed earlier due to a Ukrainian drone attack that caused damage to residential areas and injured a woman.Â
The curbs were lifted around 9:30 a.m. (0530 GMT), as reported by Russia’s RIA news agency.
The attack, which targeted the Saratov region, located about 900 kilometers (560 miles) from the Ukrainian border, resulted in falling debris from drones destroyed by Russian air defense systems.
The debris caused damage to a residential complex in the city, with regional governor Roman Busargin confirming on Telegram that a woman was seriously injured and hospitalized. “Doctors are fighting for her life,” Busargin added.
Russia’s defense ministry reported that its air defense systems successfully destroyed nine drones over the Saratov region.
The attack is part of ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with Saratov being several hundred kilometers southeast of Moscow and home to the Engels strategic bomber military base, which Ukraine has targeted multiple times since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
Emergency services responded to the affected areas in Saratov and Engels, where additional damage was reported.
Video footage shared by the Russian news channel SHOT on Telegram showed a high-rise residential building in Saratov with a damaged side and blown-out windows across three floors. In Engels, the top floor of another residential building was damaged.
There has been no immediate information regarding any damage at the Engels military base or details about the overall scale of the Ukrainian attack on the region.
Both Russia and Ukraine have consistently denied targeting civilians in their attacks, stating that their operations are aimed at destroying infrastructure critical to war efforts.
