Russian airstrikes in Lviv, Ukraine, killed three, including a 14-year-old girl, injured over 30, and damaged historic buildings. Poland scrambled aircraft in response.

Bollywood Fever: A Russian airstrike on Ukraine’s western city of Lviv, close to the border with NATO member Poland, has left three people dead, over 30 injured, and caused significant damage to historic buildings, regional officials reported on Wednesday.

The attack came just a day after the war’s deadliest incident this year, where Russia targeted a military institute in Poltava with two ballistic missiles, killing 50 people and wounding hundreds.

Among the victims in Lviv was a 14-year-old girl, while five children were among the injured, according to regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi, who shared the information on Telegram. The city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, confirmed that the casualties included a midwife nurse and a man. He added that 35 people were receiving medical care.

In a video posted on Telegram, Sadovyi was seen among the debris, explaining that over 50 buildings, including schools, homes, and clinics, were damaged, particularly in the city’s central area.

Meanwhile, Poland scrambled aircraft for the third time in just eight days in an effort to secure its airspace, as the Russian Federation’s long-range aviation continued its strikes. “This is another very busy night for the entire air defence system in Poland,” the Polish armed forces’ operational command stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Russia also launched missile attacks on Kyiv and other regions on Wednesday, although no immediate damage was reported.

These recent waves of attacks, with hundreds of missiles and drones striking Ukraine over the past 10 days, are believed by some Russian military bloggers to be Moscow’s response to Kyiv’s recent incursions on Russian territory.

Moscow has not yet commented on the strikes on Lviv, Kyiv, or Poltava, but Russian authorities have previously stated that their targets are Ukraine’s military, energy, and transport infrastructure, rather than civilians.
