Bollywood Fever: Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, are facing serious legal trouble after being indicted on wire fraud charges. The rapper, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, and Turner appeared in Miami federal court on Friday in connection with their alleged involvement in a $1 million wire fraud scheme.
Both have been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud. If convicted, each could face up to 20 years in prison per count.
According to the indictment by the United States Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Florida, Kingston and Turner “unjustly enriched themselves by falsely representing that they had executed bank wire or other monetary payment transfers.” The indictment claims the payments never materialized, allowing the defendants to obtain $1 million in property without payment.
Kingston’s legal troubles escalated nearly two months ago when he was arrested in California, hours after a SWAT team raided his rented mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office stated that the “Beautiful Girls” artist was taken into custody on a Florida warrant for various fraud and theft charges. His mother was also arrested on the same day.
Following the arrests in May, Robert Rosenblatt, the attorney representing Kingston and Turner, expressed confidence in their defense. “We are aware of some of the allegations being made against both of them,” Rosenblatt said in an email to the Associated Press. “We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Sean and his mother.”
The case continues to unfold, with both Kingston and Turner facing significant legal challenges and potential prison time if found guilty.
