Selena Gomez overtakes Kylie
After dominating Instagram as its most followed woman for a considerable time, Kylie Jenner has been dethroned by Selena Gomez.
On February 23rd, celebrity news fan account PopFaction reported that Gomez had surpassed Jenner’s follower count, although Jenner still held a slight edge at 10 A.M. EST.
However, as the day progressed, Gomez ultimately took the lead with a total of 380,644,778 followers, while Jenner trails closely behind with 380,425,729 followers.
Despite Gomez’s recent activity on the platform, she revealed in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that she no longer has Instagram on her phone and has her assistant post content to her page.
Gomez explained that she removed Instagram from her phone after feeling overwhelmed by the inundation of information and negative feedback she received on the platform.
As someone who never got to experience high school due to her early career, Gomez found that the world was her high school for a long time, and she began to receive information she did not want.
The negative opinions and feedback she received were particularly challenging during a breakup, leading her to cry frequently and struggle with anxiety.
Gomez found TikTok to be a more welcoming platform, which is why it is the only social media app she has on her phone.
Although she recognizes that social media has its benefits, including the ability to connect with fans and share stories, she has created a system where everything she posts is sent to her assistant, who then uploads it to her page.
Additionally, her team filters through comments and puts together encouraging messages for her.
