Actress Shannen Doherty is prepared to address her marital issues with her estranged husband, Kurt Iswarienko, in court, despite her ongoing battle with cancer.
The “Little House on the Prairie” star recently filed a request with the court to set a trial date for their divorce proceedings. In legal documents obtained by The Blast, Doherty highlighted that there are numerous unresolved issues in addition to ending their marriage of over a decade.
Doherty, who is facing her third divorce, expressed her intention to resolve matters with Iswarienko through family law. She indicated that their case is ready for trial and urged the court to commence the necessary proceedings.
Among the disputes listed by Doherty are the dissolution of their marriage, spousal support, division of assets, attorney fees, and case-related expenses.
While it remains unclear whether the couple had a prenuptial agreement, the legal battle ahead may be protracted given their turbulent past.
Fans may remember that Shannen Doherty’s separation from Kurt Iswarienko occurred during her battle with stage 4 breast cancer, coupled with allegations of her estranged husband’s infidelity.
Last year, a friend of Iswarienko claimed that the couple had been “living separate lives” long before doctors discovered a tumor in Doherty’s brain.
In December, Doherty criticized media outlets for spreading false information about the end of her marriage. The controversy arose when Iswarienko’s alleged friend stated that the couple had separated two years before Doherty’s brain tumor diagnosis.
According to the source, Iswarienko had informed Doherty about his extramarital relationship at the beginning of 2023, just after New Year’s. This revelation reportedly occurred a few days before Doherty fell and underwent an MRI that revealed her brain tumor.
Doherty refuted Iswarienko’s inner circle’s claims, denouncing the allegations in a passionate Instagram post. She labeled the story “an absolute lie,” stating:
“Let’s Be Clear, the truth matters. I just received a disturbing phone call that @tmz_tv was going to run a story about me. The story supposedly comes from my husband’s friends (soon to be ex) that he told me two years ago he was cheating on me, and we have had an open marriage.”
Doherty stated that she would address Iswarienko’s affair and the breakdown of her third marriage on her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty.” However, she cautioned media outlets and Iswarienko’s friends against spreading false information until she did so.
“@tmz_tv please do more due diligence and to the ‘friends/girlfriend’ who tried to put this story out, I realize you’re scared of the truth, but trying to circumvent it with lies will get you nowhere,” Doherty concluded her message, adding, “#thetruthmatters.”
Fans rallied behind Doherty, expressing shock at the alleged attempt to cause her more pain amid her ongoing cancer battle. One social media user wrote:
“The audacity to put her through this when she is fighting for her life is unbelievable. I am so sorry you are going through this.”
The “open marriage” claims surfaced shortly after Doherty disclosed that she learned about Iswarienko’s two-year affair just before her brain tumor surgery in January 2023. She discussed the situation on the debut episode of her podcast, saying:
“I went into that surgery early in the morning, and I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years.”
“To not go into that surgery, even though, being very clear, he wanted to go, I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed,” she lamented.
