Simon Cowell expands his search for the next big boyband by inviting transgender men to audition. Learn about his innovative approach and upcoming Netflix documentary, “The Midas Touch.”
Bollywood Fever: Simon Cowell has reportedly opened auditions to transgender men for his nationwide search to find the next big boyband. This move comes as Cowell aims to find the next One Direction, with the process being documented in the upcoming Netflix series, The Midas Touch.
Despite the first round of auditions in Liverpool attracting a modest crowd of just 40 people, Cowell’s team remains determined. They have now widened their search, placing an ad on the showbiz job site StarNow to draw more applicants.
A source told The Sun, “Simon knows he has to change with the times and loves being a trailblazer. He thinks it could be a game-changer and shows he understands how progressive the industry is.”
Simon Cowell began his search last week but saw a lower turnout than expected. An onlooker reported, “They started arriving slowly from about 9am on Saturday, but the queue never exceeded 40 people. By early afternoon, arrivals had virtually stopped, and it was the same on Sunday.”
However, other auditions have been more successful, with plans for additional sessions in London and Dublin. To boost interest, the team is enlisting TikTok stars and influencers to promote the call-out for auditions and are reaching out to content creators.
Previously, doubts were cast on Cowell’s talent search when a singer from the band STONE issued a blunt response to an invitation to audition for the “next One Direction.” Fin Power shared a message he received from a casting director and his brutal reply: “Tell Simon to go f*** himself.”
Simon Cowell recently signed a significant deal with Netflix for his new show, Simon Cowell: Midas Touch. A source revealed to The Sun that the deal is in its final stages. “Netflix is the perfect place for his new show, and Box To Box, who are producing the series, have worked with them before. Simon and his team have been working hard to get the show off the ground, and a final deal is very close.”
The show’s title, Midas Touch, reflects Cowell’s confidence in his talent discovery skills. “Simon knows he is the best at what he does and calling his show Midas Touch gives a new meaning to blowing your own trumpet,” the source added.
Cowell recently expressed concerns that the UK is not discovering enough breakthrough talent, blaming record labels for not signing new stars amid fierce online competition. He told the Daily Mail, “Right now, record labels aren’t signing enough new talent. The number of UK artists breaking worldwide has fallen off a cliff because there is too much competition online. You have to go out there yourself and do it. So that’s what we are doing.”
Determined to change the landscape, Simon Cowell’s new project aims to find and nurture the next big boyband, embracing inclusivity and innovation in the music industry.
