In Which Regions Sony Raising The Prices Of PlayStation 5 and Why?

Today, Sony released some surprising news, announcing that it would raise the price of its popular PlayStation 5 console.

Those in Australia, Canada, China, Europe, Mexico, and the UK will see the changes immediately, while Japan will see the price increase starting September 15, 2022.

For the better part of two years now, we have been struggling with global inflation rates, and more recently, over the past several months, we have seen currency fluctuations affecting exchange rates.

Because of this, Sony Interactive Entertainment had to change its prices in select markets. Additionally, the company stated that the increases were a “necessity” but that its top priority would be getting the PlayStation 5 into the hands of more people.

Since its release, the PlayStation 5 has been a tough console to get a hold of.

The console was released in November 2020, and even though a little over a year and a half has passed, it is still nearly impossible to purchase one by going into a retail store.

Those interested will have better luck finding it online, but it’s still not an easy task to purchase it.

Sony has recently been holding raffles on its website, offering better chances.

Although the PlayStation 5 bundles are generally available, the console by itself always manages to sell out quickly.

Currently, the system isn’t set up for global orders, with the site focusing on those in the United States.

The website does state that other countries with PlayStation Network account support, like Africa, Europe, India, Oceania, Russia, and the Middle East, can order. Still, Sony will cancel the order if the country cannot be delivered.

This makes things rather confusing and risky. But, if you need it, it’s always worth a shot. Regardless, no matter the location, it takes some work and luck to purchase the PlayStation 5.

Below are the new prices for the consoles in the future.

PlayStation 5 Prices Hiked, Sony Blames It On Economic Slowdown

With big-name launched like The Last of Us Part I and God of War Ragnarök still to come this year, it is unlikely that PS5 sales will be affected.

In PlayStation’s blog post, Jim Ryan, CEO, and President of SIE said, “The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing.

We’re seeing high global inflation rates and adverse currency trends impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries.”

As of now, there is no word if the prices will increase in India. Also Read, 8 Ball Pool Hack Cheats Unlimited Coins August 2022

We have reached out to Sony for comment, but we still await a response from the company.

Meanwhile, Sony makes it clear that there will be no changes in PS5 prices in the United States.

However, you would have to pay more to get a PS5 if you reside in Canada or Mexico.

The disc edition will now come at CAD 649.99, while the digital edition will be available for CAD 519.99.

There has been an increase of CAD 20 for both versions. In Mexico, the PlayStation 5 will now retail for MXN 14,999 (disc edition) and MXN 12,499 (digital edition).

Jim Ryan says that the price increase is a “necessity” in the wake of the current global economic situation.

He further adds, “our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come.”
