Sophia Bush shares how her girlfriend, Ashlyn Harris, reacted to a troubling scene from One Tree Hill involving diet pills. The couple’s relationship has brought new perspectives and deepened their connection.
Bollywood Fever: Sophia Bush recently shared a candid moment involving her girlfriend, Ashlyn Harris, and a controversial scene from One Tree Hill.
During the August 26 episode of the “Drama Queens” podcast, which Bush cohosts with Bethany Joy Lenz and Robert Buckley, the 42-year-old actress opened up about Harris’ strong reaction to a particular scene from the CW series.
Bush and her One Tree Hill costar, Jana Kramer, were discussing Season 7, Episode 6, when they touched on a troubling scene where Milicent (played by Lisa Goldstein) starts taking diet pills after being told by Alex (Kramer) that she is a plus-sized model.
Recalling how Harris, 38, reacted while watching the episode with her, Bush said,
“By the way, Ash and [my friend] Sammy watched with me yesterday and Ash goes, ‘Diet pills? Why?!’” Bush, who portrayed Brooke Davis on the show from 2003 to 2012, continued, “[Ashlyn] goes, ‘No!’ Screamed at the top of her lungs. And I’m like, ‘Well, welcome to Tree Hill. This is why everyone had a complex. You’re welcome.’”
This lighthearted yet pointed exchange highlighted the outdated and damaging messages that were sometimes portrayed in older TV shows, and Harris’ reaction underscored the growing awareness around body image and mental health in today’s media landscape.
Bush and Harris’ relationship has garnered significant attention since it became public in October 2023, following Bush’s divorce from Grant Hughes and Harris’ split from Ali Krieger. Bush officially confirmed their romantic relationship in April and also publicly came out as queer.
Reflecting on their relationship, Bush shared in a Glamour cover story,
“It took me confronting a lot of things, what felt like countless sessions of therapy, and some prodding from loved ones, but eventually I asked Ashlyn to have a non-friend-group hang to talk about it.” She described their first deep conversation as “one of the most surreal experiences of my life thus far,” adding that “falling in love with [Ashlyn] has sutured some of my own childhood wounds, and made me so much closer to my own mother.”
Bush also praised Harris for her “relentless integrity” and the way she prioritizes her children—daughter Sloane, 3, and son Ocean, 2, whom she shares with Krieger.
“Seeing Ashlyn choose to not simply survive, but thrive, for her babies has been the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed a friend do. And now I get to love her. How lucky am I?”
The couple’s journey highlights the power of love and understanding in overcoming past challenges and embracing new beginnings.
