Pittsburgh Steelers Fall to Colts 27-24: Turnovers and Missed Opportunities Prove Costly

Must read

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell 27-24 to the Indianapolis Colts, plagued by costly turnovers despite a strong second-half rally led by Justin Fields. Here’s a breakdown of the game’s key moments.

BollywoodFever: The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 27-24 to the Indianapolis Colts in a game where they may feel they let the victory slip through their fingers. Despite being -2 in the turnover margin, the Steelers had the ball in their hands with a chance to win late in the fourth quarter but couldn’t capitalize.

As the Steelers shift their focus to the Dallas Cowboys, let’s break down the good, the bad, and the ugly from their loss to the Colts.

The Good: The Second-Half Response

The Steelers’ offense struggled in the first half, managing only a field goal while the Colts scored on three of their five drives. However, the second half was a different story. Quarterback Justin Fields, despite an early third-quarter fumble, found his groove and led Pittsburgh on three straight touchdown drives.

Fields ran in two of those touchdowns himself, showcasing his athleticism. On the third drive, he broke tight end Pat Freiermuth’s 12-game touchdown drought by connecting with him for a five-yard score, keeping the Steelers in striking distance.

The Bad: Colts’ Backup Quarterback Success

When Colts’ starting quarterback Anthony Richardson exited with a hip injury in the first half, one might have expected the Colts’ offense to slow down. However, veteran backup Joe Flacco stepped in and performed efficiently. The 39-year-old pocket passer completed 16 of 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns, guiding Indianapolis to a win and proving that even without Richardson, the Colts’ offense could thrive.

The Ugly: Turnover Troubles

Despite their second-half surge, turnovers ultimately doomed the Steelers. Fields’ careless fumble while retreating from a sack and a third-quarter fumble by George Pickens in the red zone were critical mistakes. Though the Colts didn’t turn those turnovers into points, they cost Pittsburgh valuable opportunities to score, making the difference between a win and a loss.

Even a near fumble late in the game sealed the Steelers’ fate, as a mishandled snap—though recovered by Fields—was a reminder of their struggles holding onto the ball. These errors ultimately kept Pittsburgh from completing their comeback.
