Taylor Swift Breaks Silence on Vienna Eras Tour Cancellations After Foiled Terrorist Attack

Taylor Swift addresses the cancellation of her Vienna shows, citing safety concerns after a foiled terrorist attack. The singer expresses her gratitude and explains her decision to stay silent until now.

Bollywood Fever: Taylor Swift has spoken out for the first time regarding the cancellation of three of her Eras Tour shows in Vienna, Austria, earlier this month due to a foiled terrorist attack.

The pop superstar, called the situation “devastating” in a statement posted on social media on Wednesday.

“The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows,” the 34-year-old singer shared.

Swift went on to praise the passionate crowds and dedicated performers of the European leg of her Eras Tour, which concluded with shows in London.

She also expressed deep gratitude to the authorities who uncovered the Vienna plot, stating, “thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Explaining why she waited to address the situation, Swift said,

“I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London. I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

The cancellations occurred after three teenagers were detained in relation to an alleged planned attack at the concert, which was scheduled for August 8–10 at Ernst Happel Stadium.

Investigators revealed that two of the suspects had been radicalized online. A lawyer for one of the main suspects argued that the teenager’s alleged plans were merely “fantasies” and that he lacked the capacity to carry them out.

Swift’s record-breaking tour will resume in October, with upcoming performances in the U.S. and Canada.
