Bollywood Fever: Pop superstar Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for President of the United States, taking to Instagram to share her support following a heated presidential debate where Harris outperformed Donald Trump.
The endorsement set social media abuzz, especially after Swift made a pointed remark about JD Vance, Trump’s Republican ally, who had previously mocked “childless cat ladies.” Swift turned the insult around, joining Harris supporters in the “cat ladies for Harris” movement.
Swift posted a picture of herself holding her cat, writing:
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. Now is a great time to research the issues and understand the stances of each candidate. Recently, I became aware of an AI-generated endorsement of Donald Trump on his website using my likeness, which raised concerns about the spread of misinformation. I want to be transparent about my voting plans.”
Swift confirmed she would be voting for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, in the 2024 election, explaining:
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that need a champion. I believe we can accomplish much more under her steady leadership.”
She went on to commend Walz’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF access, and women’s rights, adding:
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. I encourage you to do the same. Remember, if you want to vote, you need to be registered. It’s much easier to vote early, and I’ll link resources in my story.”
Signing off, Swift humorously referred to herself as a “Childless Cat Lady,” a nod to the criticism from JD Vance that Harris supporters have since reclaimed as a badge of honor.
Swift has never shied away from sharing her political views, having previously supported Joe Biden in 2020. She frequently uses her platform to encourage fans to research candidates and get out to vote.
