Taylor Swift’s eight sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium are set to bring a £300 million boost to London’s economy. The pop icon will attract 640,000 fans, with major spending expected.
UK, Bollywood Fever: Taylor Swift’s eight sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium are poised to inject £300 million into London’s economy. The “Look What You Made Me Do” singer, 34, will kick off her three-date run at the 90,000-capacity venue tonight. She will return in August for five more nights, bringing the total number of fans visiting the capital to 640,000.
According to the Greater London Authority, these fans are expected to spend an average of £471 each.
The Sun reveals that Taylor has also taken over a giant car park at the stadium to create a merchandise stall, where T-shirts will sell for £40, hoodies for £70, and tote bags for £25. For fans without tickets, a second pop-up shop is available in Hyde Park, Central London.
Taylor’s performances mark the most nights played at Wembley Stadium by a female solo artist in a single tour. To celebrate, Wembley has been transformed, with artist Frank Styles’ giant mural of Taylor’s face now adorning the stadium’s Spanish Steps, renamed the Swiftie Steps. Another mural of the singer, by MurWalls and Humour Street Art, has also appeared at the venue.
Additionally, Transport for London (TfL) has released a special “London (Taylor’s version)” Tube map. Each line is named after one of Taylor’s albums, with stations named after her songs. The Black Dog pub in Vauxhall, mentioned in one of Taylor’s latest songs, has been fully booked by fans on show days.
Expressing her excitement, Taylor, who owns a mansion in North London, posted yesterday: “I’m absolutely living for these UK crowds. Next up: our weekend at Wembley!! See you tomorrow London!!”
