Jimmy Connors, the 17-year-old accused of killing two men in a Harlem hit-and-run, was arrested at the Canadian border. His attorney argues he is being wrongfully accused.
BollywoodFever: Jimmy Connors, the 17-year-old accused of killing a groom just hours before his wedding in a horrific Harlem hit-and-run, has been arrested at the Canadian border, according to a criminal complaint.
Connors, from Long Island, was apprehended trying to cross into Canada with suspicious injuries a day after the deadly crash, which claimed the lives of Kirk Walker and his cousin, Rob McLaurin.
Connors is currently being held without bail at a juvenile detention center following his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
Canadian authorities became suspicious when they observed Connors with cuts, bruises, blood on his shirt, and a limp.
The complaint states that he was identified using photos from the scene of the crash, which showed him leaving in a Chevy Silverado with Ontario license plates.
Connors’ attorney, Jonathan Perez, has maintained his client’s innocence, stating, “the DA just has circumstantial evidence at this point.”

Perez argued that Connors, who has autism and epilepsy, may have been manipulated by others involved in the incident, adding, “Just because he was seen at some point in that vehicle, doesn’t mean he was the main culprit.
Connors is accused of driving the wrong way on the Henry Hudson Parkway in Upper Manhattan on August 24, crashing into a car carrying Walker and McLaurin. Walker, a 38-year-old father of three, was set to marry Shauntea Weaver the day of the crash.
In an emotional interview, Weaver expressed her devastation, saying, “I’m supposed to be in my wedding dress right now — not in mourning.” She called for justice for both her fiancé and his cousin, adding, “He killed two genuine, good people… I just want justice to be served to the fullest extent.”
The District Attorney intends to charge Connors as an adult, but his attorney plans to fight the decision. Perez also criticized the police for interviewing Connors without representation, a guardian, or a parent present, calling it a violation of boundaries.
Connors’ family has traveled from overseas to support him, and while his attorney expressed sorrow over the deaths, he continues to maintain his client’s innocence. A detention hearing is scheduled for Monday.
