BollywoodFever: A 17-year-old boy, identified locally as Kayden, is in a coma after a horrific hit-and-run crash in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 16, just after 8:30 p.m. when a car being chased by police ran a red light at 100mph and struck Kayden, who was out with friends at Tesco.
According to West Yorkshire Police, officers spotted a speeding vehicle in Bradford around 8:25 p.m. and attempted to pursue it, but the car quickly disappeared from view.
Moments later, police found Kayden on Halifax Road, the victim of the hit-and-run. The suspect vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
Kayden was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), where he remains in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, he underwent two surgeries, and one of his legs was amputated up to his thigh.
Family friend Michaela Petty shared on a GoFundMe page that Kayden is in a coma and will face a long road to recovery.
Kayden is still in hospital, in a coma and still in a critical condition due to his injuries. He’s been in theatre twice for major life-changing operations... it’s going to be one hell of a journey for his family and friends,” Michaela wrote.
Kayden’s mother, Carole Womersley, remains by his side at the hospital as he fights for his life. The family has expressed gratitude that he survived the crash but acknowledges the long recovery process ahead.
Authorities have made several arrests related to the incident. On Wednesday, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for similar charges, including failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
Another 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three have been bailed pending further investigations.
West Yorkshire Police has voluntarily referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as part of their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the chase.
