Timberwolves point guard Mike Conley, aka “Minnesota Mike,” will sound the Gjallarhorn at the Vikings’ home opener against the 49ers. Conley has quickly become a fan favorite in Minnesota.
BollywoodFever: Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Mike Conley, affectionately known as “Minnesota Mike,” will be a special guest at the Minnesota Vikings‘ home opener against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.
Conley, 36, will have the honor of sounding the Gjallarhorn at U.S. Bank Stadium, a tradition that has been part of the Vikings’ pregame rituals since 2007.
The Gjallarhorn, rooted in Norse mythology, is used to signal the arrival of the gods and has become a pregame staple featuring local celebrities and sports figures.
Conley’s presence at the game highlights his growing connection with Minnesota fans since joining the Timberwolves in February 2023.
Since joining the Wolves, Conley has averaged 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in 100 regular-season appearances.
He’s also contributed in the postseason with consistent production, shooting 40.8% from three. Conley’s leadership has been crucial for the Timberwolves, who made it to the Western Conference Finals last season.
He signed a two-year extension in February, committing to the team through the 2025-26 season.
The Vikings’ game against the 49ers is set to kick off at noon on Sunday.
