Tom Brady’s comment about Daniel Jones at FanaticsFest in NYC stirs memories of his Super Bowl losses to the New York Giants, as he prepares for his new role in sports broadcasting.
Bollywood Fever: Tom Brady couldn’t resist stirring up some old rivalries with the New York Giants during his appearance at the first-ever FanaticsFest in Manhattan on Friday.
The legendary former Patriots quarterback, who was participating in a panel hosted by media personality Stephen A. Smith, made a lighthearted comment that quickly brought back memories of his Super Bowl battles with the Giants.
While discussing how he plans to approach his new role as a television play-by-play commentator, Brady made a self-deprecating remark about how he would have critiqued his own performance if he threw a bad interception.
He then pivoted to current Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, saying, “But I just don’t want to be so critical, because in some ways I don’t necessarily know what the problem was on that play if, let’s say… Daniel Jones throws an interception.”
The comment elicited a mixed reaction from the New York crowd, who responded with both laughs and boos. Brady, recognizing the potential for controversy, quickly clarified, “I didn’t mean to say it like that, I wasn’t even being critical of Daniel Jones… maybe I was a little bit,” drawing more laughter from the audience.
Brady’s quip highlighted the notoriously one-sided rivalry between himself and the Giants, who handed the Patriots two of their most memorable Super Bowl defeats. In Super Bowl XLII, the Giants thwarted the Patriots’ perfect season with a 17-14 victory. Four years later, in Super Bowl XLVI, New York once again bested Brady and the Patriots, winning 21-17.
Unsurprisingly, some social media users were quick to remind Brady of these losses, with comments like “Brady is still bitter from those Super Bowl losses, I see.”
As Brady prepares for his first season as a color commentator for Fox, working alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt, his playful jab at Jones and the Giants serves as a reminder of the competitive spirit that defined his storied NFL career—and the rivalries that will likely follow him into his new role in the broadcast booth.
