Badminton Asia and Indonesia’s Badminton Association express deep condolences following the sudden death of 17-year-old Zhang Zhijie, who collapsed on court during the Asian Junior Championships.
Bollywood Fever: Badminton Asia expressed their heartfelt condolences on Monday following the tragic death of 17-year-old Chinese player Zhang Zhijie, who collapsed on court during the Asian Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
In a joint statement, Indonesia’s Badminton Association (PBSI) and Badminton Asia reported that Zhang collapsed during a match against Japan. The tournament’s medical team responded promptly before an ambulance transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m.
“Badminton Asia, PBSI and the organising committee are immensely saddened and expressed their deepest condolences to Zhang’s parents, family, and the Chinese Badminton Association,” the statement read.
Indonesia’s National Olympic Committee also conveyed their deepest sympathies for Zhang’s untimely death.
China’s badminton association communicated with state-backed China Newsweek on Monday, expressing concerns regarding the timeliness of the medical attention Zhang received after collapsing.
