Donald Trump threatens to prosecute Google if elected in 2024, claiming the search engine favors Kamala Harris in an “illegal system” that only displays negative stories about him.
BollywoodFever: Former President Donald Trump has announced that if he wins the 2024 presidential election, he plans to direct the Justice Department to prosecute Google for allegedly using an illegal system to manipulate search results. Trump claimed that Google favors Vice President Kamala Harris by promoting positive stories about her while showing only negative coverage of him.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump alleged that it “has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump,” while simultaneously promoting positive stories about Harris. He labeled this as “ILLEGAL ACTIVITY” and expressed hope that the Justice Department would pursue criminal charges for what he described as blatant election interference.
Trump did not specify which laws he believes were violated, but vowed to prosecute Google “at the maximum levels” if elected president in 2024.
Claims Rooted in Conservative Study
Trump’s accusations appear to be linked to a study conducted by the conservative Media Research Center. The study, which gained attention on conservative platforms like Fox News and the New York Post, claimed that Google search results showed a bias toward Harris over Trump.
In response, Google denied the allegations. A spokesperson told USA TODAY that the study was based on a “rare search term on a single day,” noting that both Trump and Harris’s websites ranked in the top results during that period.
Trump’s Pattern of Threats
The threat against Google is the latest in a series of actions Trump has promised to take against his perceived rivals. Over the years, Trump has threatened to prosecute or imprison several political figures, including President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
