The Minnesota Twins recognize top prospects Luke Keaschall and Zebby Matthews as their minor league player and pitcher of the year, highlighting their impressive 2024 campaigns.
BollywoodFever: Although the Minnesota Twins‘ 2024 season didn’t unfold as hoped, several prospects shined throughout the year. Ahead of the Twins’ season finale against the Baltimore Orioles, the organization named Luke Keaschall and Zebby Matthews as their minor league player and pitcher of the year, respectively.
Luke Keaschall’s Breakout Season
Keaschall, 22, the Twins’ second-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, made waves in his 2024 campaign. After a brief but impressive pro debut last summer, he continued to rise through the ranks, reaching High-A Cedar Rapids within two months. He became the only qualifier in the Midwest League with an OPS over 1.000 before earning a promotion to Double-A Wichita, where he posted an impressive .832 OPS over 58 games.
Though his season was cut short due to a planned Tommy John surgery, Keaschall was also the Twins’ representative at the Futures Game during MLB All-Star Weekend.
Zebby Matthews’ Impressive Journey
Matthews, 24, was selected by the Twins in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Like Keaschall, he started the 2024 season at High-A but quickly earned three promotions, culminating in his MLB debut for the Twins on August 13. While he faced some challenges at the major league level after being thrust into a starting role, Matthews demonstrated flashes of his potential, marking him as a promising future asset for the team.
Recognition at the Diamond Awards
Keaschall and Matthews will be recognized for their stellar seasons at the annual Twins Diamond Awards on January 23 in Minneapolis. Other honorees include infielder Jake Rucker, who will receive the Riccardo Ingram Award for passion, heart, hustle, and fun, as well as defensive award winners catcher Jair Camargo, infielder Ben Ross, and outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr.
