Uber and WeRide partner to bring self-driving vehicles to Abu Dhabi, marking Uber’s first robotaxi collaboration in the UAE. This move expands Uber’s global autonomous vehicle efforts.
Bollywoodfever: Uber Technologies has partnered with Chinese self-driving technology firm WeRide to introduce autonomous vehicles to the ride-hailing platform, starting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The collaboration, announced on Wednesday, marks WeRide’s first venture with a global rideshare platform and helps Uber move closer to integrating robotaxis into its services.

The partnership is set to launch in Abu Dhabi later this year, leveraging WeRide’s unique position as the first company to receive a national license for self-driving vehicles in the UAE.
This license allows WeRide to test and operate robotaxis on public roads throughout the country, offering Uber users the chance to experience autonomous rides.
This new partnership is part of Uber’s broader push toward integrating autonomous vehicles into its platform.
Earlier this month, Uber expanded its collaboration with Alphabet’s Waymo to bring robotaxis to Austin and Atlanta in the United States. Additionally, Uber is teaming up with General Motors’ robotaxi unit Cruise, which will start offering autonomous rides on the platform in 2024.
Meanwhile, WeRide’s plans for an initial public offering (IPO) in the U.S., valuing the firm up to $5 billion, have been delayed as the company works to finalize its documentation.
Complicating matters for Chinese firms in the self-driving sector, the Biden administration recently proposed new prohibitions that would restrict Chinese automakers, and their software and hardware, from testing self-driving cars on U.S. roads. These restrictions are aimed at Chinese companies and extend to adversarial nations like Russia.
