Britain braces for heavy rainfall, potential flooding, and power cuts as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning. Strong winds and cooler temperatures are expected to hit parts of the UK.
BollywoodFever: Heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected to bring flooding, power cuts, and disruptions across Britain this week, with a new weather warning in place. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain, which will be in effect all day Thursday, impacting millions of people, particularly in northern England.
The heaviest rain is forecasted to hit areas like the Pennines and North York Moors, while other regions may see lighter showers. According to Met Office Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen, “The heaviest rain looks like falling across east-facing hills of northern England, although there is some uncertainty in the regional focus.”
Up to 80-100mm of rainfall could accumulate in some areas by Thursday, with others seeing around 20-30mm. The warning indicates the potential for power cuts and disruptions to homes and businesses, as well as possible flooding in some regions. Public transport services, including trains and buses, may face delays or cancellations in affected areas.
Today, much of England and Wales will experience cloudy skies and scattered rain showers, particularly moving toward the northeast. Cooler temperatures are expected in northern regions, with Scotland and Northern Ireland also seeing a few showers.
Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts that temperatures will drop significantly by the weekend, leading to frost overnight for many areas. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Brent Walker stated, “A north-westerly flow of air is developing, bringing cooler air from the north over the UK and dropping temperatures into the weekend and possibly below freezing overnight for some.”
While some isolated showers may occur, the weekend is expected to be mostly dry, with sunny spells breaking through in many parts of the country.

- East Midlands: Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire
- North East England: Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland
