After a 7-hour delay due to an emergency landing, a United Airlines pilot surprised 150 passengers by personally ordering 30 pizzas, turning a stressful situation into a heartwarming experience.
BollywoodFever: A United Airlines pilot has been praised for his kind gesture after a flight faced a 7-hour delay due to an emergency landing. The captain surprised 150 stranded passengers at a New Mexico airport by ordering 30 pizzas, bringing smiles during a difficult situation.
The emergency landing occurred when a passenger on the flight from San Francisco to Houston collapsed in the bathroom, requiring immediate medical attention. The plane diverted to Albuquerque, where passengers waited hours for a rescheduled flight with a new crew.
One of the passengers, Tanya Stamos, told Fox News how the pilot’s generosity “completely shocked” everyone. “Most organizations do not go above and beyond, but that captain did not hesitate,” she said. “His display that evening is what we should have more of: selfless acts of love, compassion, and humanity.”
With most airport restaurants closed and the airline’s $15 food vouchers practically unusable, the pilot took it upon himself to make sure the passengers were fed. He personally ordered pizzas from a local restaurant, turning an otherwise frustrating experience into something memorable.
Passengers enjoyed the unexpected meal until a new flight was ready, which departed around 11 p.m. Tanya, who shared the story on TikTok, said the passengers finally arrived in Houston at 2 a.m., where the pilot continued to show gratitude by personally thanking everyone for their patience as they exited the plane. “As it was my turn to exit, I shook his hand and thanked him,” Tanya said. “Everyone behind me then followed suit and shook his hand as well.”
This isn’t the first time a pilot has grabbed attention for their pizza-related actions. Earlier this year, another pilot went viral for causing a delay by ordering pizza for his crew.
