Valeri Nichushkin Leads Avalanche to Victory in Comeback Game

Bollywoodfever, March 9: Valeri Nichushkin marked his comeback by netting a decisive power-play goal in overtime, securing a 2-1 victory for the Colorado Avalanche against the Minnesota Wild in Denver on Friday night. 

After being sidelined for 22 games over two months due to his participation in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, Nichushkin celebrated his 23rd goal of the season 2:32 into overtime.

Nathan MacKinnon contributed with two assists, prolonging his home point streak to 32 games, while Artturi Lehkonen added a goal and Alexandar Georgiev stopped 29 shots for the Avalanche. 

The Wild saw Brock Faber score, and Filip Gustavsson made 38 saves.

MacKinnon matched Guy Lafleur’s record for the third-longest home point streak in NHL history. 

A point in the upcoming home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 22 could elevate him to tie with Wayne Gretzky for second place.

In other NHL action, the Dallas Stars defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-2 in Anaheim, maintaining their lead in the division race. 

Roope Hintz led the Stars with a goal and two assists, supported by Jamie Benn and Joe Pavelski, who each added a goal and an assist. 

The victory marked Dallas’ fourth consecutive win, featuring additional goals from Christopher Tanev, Mason Marchment, and Radek Faksa, and 25 saves by Jake Oettinger. 

The Ducks’ effort included a goal and an assist from Ryan Strome and a power-play goal by Alex Killorn, while John Gibson faced 36 shots, stopping 30.

The Winnipeg Jets shut out the Seattle Kraken 3-0, with third-period goals from Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry, and Nikolaj Ehlers. 

Laurent Brossoit earned his first season shutout and fourth career shutout with 17 saves, as the Jets bounced back from a recent loss to the Kraken, marking their 10th win in 13 games. 

Joey Daccord of the Kraken made 29 stops in the loss, ending their two-game win streak.

Lastly, the Arizona Coyotes emerged victorious over the Detroit Red Wings 4-0, with Connor Ingram achieving his sixth season shutout. 

Nick Bjugstad scored and assisted, contributing to the Coyotes’ win, alongside goals from Jack McBain, Logan Kerfoot, and Logan Cooley.

Ingram ended a 0-7-2 stretch with 28 saves, while the Coyotes snapped a 14-game winless streak. The Red Wings, facing their fourth consecutive loss, including two shutouts, had Alex Lyon in goal, saving 20 shots.
