Warner Bros Executive Expresses Eagerness to Collaborate with Greta Gerwig on Barbie Sequel
Bollywoodfever, March 9: Pam Abdy, Warner Bros Motion Picture Group‘s co-chair and CEO, has expressed her enthusiasm for creating a sequel to the global hit movie Barbie, which has captivated audiences worldwide.
In a conversation with the BBC, Abdy revealed that there are ongoing discussions with Barbie’s director, Greta Gerwig, about the possibility of a second film that explores the distinctive universe of Barbie.
Abdy also shared her disappointment over the exclusion of Gerwig and Margot Robbie from the Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Lead Actress, respectively. She praised Gerwig as a visionary and lauded her as one of today’s most outstanding filmmakers.
The original Barbie movie has amassed $1.45 billion globally at the box office. It heads into the Academy Awards with eight nominations, including Best Picture. Ryan Gosling is up for Best Supporting Actor and is set to perform “I’m Just Ken,” a song from the film, live at the ceremony.
The soundtrack also sees nominations, with “What Was I Made For?” to be performed by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell. Additional nominations include America Ferrara for Best Supporting Actress, Production Design, and Jacqueline Durran for Costume Design, a category she has previously won for Anna Karenina and Little Women.
According to the BBC, Gerwig, who is nominated for adapting the screenplay alongside her husband Noah Baumbach, has stated her openness to a sequel, provided she can discover a compelling undercurrent for the story.
