Kerrie Lavery, a young mum who lost her leg in a hit-and-run accident, is suing the driver for £1 million to cover prosthetics and other expenses.
BollywoodFever: A young mother who lost her leg in a horrific hit-and-run incident is suing the driver responsible for £1 million to cover a lifetime of prosthetics and other expenses.
Kerrie Lavery, 25, was struck by a speeding BMW driven by Thomas Granger, 47, while walking home from a charity event near Clydebank, Scotland, on October 2, 2021.
Kerrie and her friend, Alanah Boyle, 29, were crossing the road arm-in-arm when Granger ploughed into them at 81mph. The impact severed Kerrie’s leg instantly, while Alanah sustained a fractured pelvis.
In May, Granger was sentenced to 33 months in prison and given a seven-year driving ban for his actions.
Kerrie, a mum from Drumchapel, Glasgow, is now suing him for compensation to cover the extensive costs associated with her injury, including the need for prosthetic limbs.
Her legal team, Digby Brown, recently filed the claim in Scotland’s Court of Session, seeking a six-figure sum to account for Kerrie’s future medical expenses, the impact on her personal and professional life, and lost earnings.
A spokesperson for her legal representatives praised Kerrie’s resilience, saying: “For three years, Kerrie has shown remarkable strength and positivity throughout her recovery.
The loss of a limb is life-changing, and it’s only right that someone in her position gets the support, treatment, and compensation they deserve.”
Kerrie’s victim impact statement emphasized the importance of accountability in her case. “I’m not a bitter or vengeful person, but I think it’s right that he is held accountable.
Everything surrounding this incident sends a strong message about road safety and justice,” she said, reflecting on Granger’s sentencing as an “appropriate ending” to her ordeal.
