YouTube chef Daniel Sancho Bronchalo sentenced to life in prison for the gruesome murder and dismemberment of his lover, Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, on a Thai island. Details of the shocking case revealed.
Bollywood Fever: A YouTube chef has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of murdering and dismembering his lover in a horrifying crime on a Thai party island.
Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 30, confessed to killing his 44-year-old boyfriend, plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, during a holiday on Koh Pha Ngnan last August.
The case, which unfolded on the island known for its all-night Full Moon Parties, has sent shockwaves through both Thailand and Bronchalo’s native Spain.
According to reports from The Sun, Bronchalo admitted to the murder after a feud over “sex and money” escalated to a breaking point.
Initially, Bronchalo claimed that the altercation began when Mr. Arteaga allegedly tried to sexually assault him.
He stated that during the ensuing fight, Mr. Arteaga fell, striking his head on a bathtub and dying from the impact.
Despite denying premeditated murder, Bronchalo later confessed to dismembering Mr. Arteaga’s body and disposing of the remains in plastic bags, some of which were scattered in the sea while others were left on the island.
Surveillance footage showed Bronchalo purchasing a knife, rubber gloves, waste bags, and cleaning chemicals before the murder, which prosecutors argued indicated premeditation.
Local police reported that Bronchalo confessed to planning the murder because Mr. Arteaga had allegedly threatened to publicly expose their sexual relationship, which would have brought shame to Bronchalo and his family.
Initially sentenced to death, Bronchalo’s punishment was later reduced to life imprisonment due to his cooperation during the trial, according to local police officer Paisan Sangthep.
Bronchalo, the son of well-known Spanish actors Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre and Silvia Bronchalo, had filed a missing persons report for Mr. Arteaga following the murder in an apparent attempt to cover up his crime.
The grisly nature of the case, including the dismemberment of Mr. Arteaga’s body into 14 pieces, shocked the public, leading to the creation of a Spanish-language documentary by HBO based on the events.
The remains of Mr. Arteaga, including his hips and thighs, were eventually discovered by locals at a rubbish tip on the island.
Police Lieutenant General Surapong Thanomjit confirmed that traces of the victim’s body were found in the hotel room where Bronchalo was staying.
The sentencing of Bronchalo, who initially received a reduced prison term for concealing the body, brings some closure to a case that has captivated international attention.
