Zayn introduces his introspective new single “Alienated,” a precursor to his fourth studio album “Room Under the Stairs,” set for release on May 17. Dive into the emotional depth and raw honesty of his music, including details on the album’s creation with co-producer Dave Cobb.
Just over a month after announcing his fourth studio album, “Room Under the Stairs,” Zayn Malik has unveiled his reflective new single, “Alienated.”
In this somber tune, the singer contemplates solitude with lyrics that explore deep personal questions: “Can you let me be intoxicated on my own?/Do I need to answer or right my wrongs? Am I home if I don’t know this place?” The chorus emphasizes his feelings of isolation: “I’ve been feeling alienated on my spaceship alone/Say goodbye to the past/Leave it all with a laugh.”
Scheduled for release on May 17 through Mercury Records, “Room Under the Stairs” promises a collection of 15 tracks including the lead single “What I Am,” alongside “Alienated,” “My Woman,” “Something in the Water,” “Fuchsia Sea,” and more. This album comes as a follow-up to his 2021 release, “Nobody Is Listening.”

In discussing the album, Zayn shared his enthusiasm and the emotional depth behind his work: “This is my favorite album that I’ve made to date, mainly because it comes from a place of sheer honesty and vulnerability,” he stated. “I wanted each song to feel as if it was just me sitting beside you telling you how I feel, singing directly to you. It’s raw and stripped back and the type of music I always hoped to make.” He also praised his collaboration with co-producer Dave Cobb, saying, “The way he’s elevated the music is second to none, and he has done an incredible job helping me create this record.”
Zayn expressed his hopes for the album’s impact on his listeners: “I hope we can take listeners on some whimsical, magical journey, and that they enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
